The Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) will launch the domestic market and trade promotion program in 2009 worth VND51 billion (US$3.02 million) in late April, said the ministry at a press briefing in Hanoi Apr 22.

The money will be used to conduct market surveys, promote and transport locally-made products to rural areas, industrial zones and major urban centers, and run advertising campaigns to promote Vietnamese products, said Deputy Minister, Nguyen Cam Tu.

Accelerating sales of domestically-made goods in rural areas is considered an essential part of the government’s overall plan to stimulate demand, added Mr Tu.

Under the program, the MoIT will organize a “Vietnamese Commodities Week” from Apr 27-May 3 with participation of thousands of businesses nationwide, which will boost the sale of domestic products at stores, supermarkets and trade centers by offering consumers a wide range of promotions and discounts accompanied with cultural activities, the deputy minister said.
