Vietnamese companies should export blue-dragon fruit by air to keep fruit quality, said an official from the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

Pham Van Chat from the ministry said after a survey to the U.S. late month that even though exporting the fruit by air costs around US$10.8/kilogram, two times higher than by sea, the fruit’s quality is not affected and it can be sold for US$15/kilo on average.

Chat said the U.S. partner is not pleased with Vietnam’s first container of blue-dragon fruit because it took too much time to be exported to this country.

He said an U.S. company wanted to buy more kinds of Vietnamese fruits with total revenue of US$2 million a month, but noting that the fruits must meet preserve requirements.

Currently, only Vietnamese blue-dragon fruit is eligible to enter the U.S. market, with 105 tons so far. Vietnam expected to ship its longan, litchi and rambutan to this market late this year. (Vinanet)
