The Vietnam Leather and Footwear Association (Lefaso) has targeted to achieve export turnover of over 11.4 million by 2015 as a part of the sector’s shipment strategy for the period between 2010 and 2015.

The sector also expects to raise the localization rate to 85 per cent-90 per cent by that year.

In order to fulfill the targets, Lefaso proposed footwear firms shift their production from processing to fully closed production, with a focus on fashion and leather products.

The new strategy aims to bring Vietnam into a leading producer of high quality footwear in the region.

In the first four months, Vietnam earned US$1.24 billion from exporting footwear products, down 10.8 per cent on-year.

The country also spent US$599 million on importing materials for the apparel and footwear industries in the same period.

The footwear sector has targeted to obtain the export turnover of US$5.1 billion for the whole year, up 9 per cent-10 per cent on year.

However, amid the global crisis, many footwear firms have set target of export value equaling to that of last year. (Vietnam Economic Times, VIR)
