Some 1,738 containers of frozen meat and animal organs to be re-exported to China are stockpiled at ports in northern Haiphong city after China has banned meat imports for fear of swine flu threat, said Haiphong Customs Department.

The Chua Ve port lead the stockpiles with 700 containers, followed by DinhVu port with 250 containers, NamHai port and Green Port with 200 containers each, and DoanXa over 100 containers.

It costs container owners VND1.4 billion daily, the department said, worrying that these domestic importers may give up their containers due to high maintaining costs at ports.

Tran Van Hoi, deputy head of the Haiphong Customs, elaborated these containers would be destroyed if being kept at ports without customs declaration for over 90 days.

Hoi also suggested container owners re-exporting to the original countries or paying tax for sales in domestic market. (Youth)
