Vietnam Ships 39,000 Tons of Pepper, Up 155% Since Early 2009

Vietnamese firms have exported 39,000 tons of pepper valued at $92 million, up 155% in volume and 103% in value since early 2009, the state-run Dau Tu Tai Chinh newspaper said, quoting a senior official.
 
Do Ha Nam, chairman of the Vietnam Pepper Association said currently exporting prices of pepper reach $1,900-$1,950/ton while at the domestic market prices hit VND33,000/kg, compared with VND28,000/kg early this year.
 
The prices rises benefit pepper growers and exporters, Nam noted.
 
With average yield of 5-7 ton/hectare, Vietnam is expected to harvest approx 90,000 tons of pepper with expected value of $250 million, he added. (Financial Investment)
