Vietnam Q1 Imports from U.S. Fall 22.03% to $450.87M: Ministry

Vietnam reportedly spent $450.87 million on importing goods from the United States (U.S.) in the first quarter, down 22.03% on-year, said the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT)’s information center.
 
The figure accounted for 3.57% of the country’s total import value during the period.
 
Of Vietnam’s key imports, machines and equipment topped the list with $129.92 million, followed by cotton $26.1 million, chemical products $20.16 million, animal feed and materials $20 million, finished cars $19.59 million, plastic materials $17.8 million, woodwork products $16.36 million, computers and electronics $15.53 million, and steel products $13.28 million.
 
Vietnam’s exports to its largest export market of the U.S. fell 6.12% to $2.31 billion in the quarter, including $851.13 million in March.
 
Vietnam had a huge trade surplus of $1.86 billion with the U.S. during the time.
 
The U.S. Department of Commerce has just said that bilateral trade between Vietnam and the U.S. reached $15.283 billion in 2008, representing an on year rise of 23.61%. (Vinanet.vn)
