Vietnamese Biz to Use E-commerce to Boost Exports to U.S.
The Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) and Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry held a seminar in Can Tho City May 29 encouraging exporters in Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong Delta to further utilize e-commerce to boost exports to the U.S.
The seminar provided local exporters with information about the U.S. market and skills to seek more partners via the Internet to reduce their production costs.
Using e-commerce will help exporters sharpen their competitiveness, reduce service costs, save time, and expand their markets, said local experts.
E-commerce has become popular in Vietnam in recent years. In 2008 only 18.6 per cent of businesses accepted online orders, a decrease of 5.8 per cent compared to 2007, noted Vice Director of the MoIT’s E-commerce and Information Technology Department, Nguyen Manh Quyen.
Vietnam’s exports to the U.S. fell by 6.12 per cent to US$2.31 billion in the quarter of this year, including US$851.13 million in March, said the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT)’s information center.
This year, Vietnam is estimated to earn US$12.7 billion from exports to the U.S., up 5.83 per cent from US$12 billion in 2008, the MoIT. (VNA)
