Ambassador: U.K. Pledges US$79M Aids For Vietnam Yearly
The U.K. will provide GBP50 million (US$79 million) of aid funds for Vietnam each year via its development program, U.K. Ambassador to Vietnam, Mark Kent told Vietnam News Agency.
Despite severely hit by the global turmoil, we [the U.K. government] will not cut aid funds for Vietnam, even, we will slightly increase aids for Vietnam this year, compared with that last year, Mark Kent emphasized.
“We will continue our common agenda, which focuses on education, trade, investment, organized crimes and illegal immigration, the diplomat said.
The Joint Economic and Trade Committee of the U.K. and Vietnam (JETCO) set up in 2007 is very useful in boost trade, he added.
Besides JETCO, we will hold forums with aims to boost bilateral trade and investment.
Bilateral trade between Vietnam and the United Kingdom (U.K.) reportedly hit US$492.32 million in the first quarter this year, up 17.8 per cent on-year, said the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
Of the figure, Vietnam exported US$433.84 million worth of commodities, up 18.7 per cent on-year and imported US$57.39 million, up 11.7 per cent, resulting in the country’s trade surplus of US$376.35 million during the period, up 19.8 per cent. (VNS, MOIT)
