ASEAN Transport Ministers Meet in Central Vietnam May 27

The 27th ASEAN Senior Transport Officials Meeting (STOM) took place in Vietnam’s central Danang city on May 27, aiming to seek ways to enhance regional transport cooperation.
 
The event attracted transport minister from ASEAN countries and dialogue partners, including China, Japan and the South Korea, state media said. 
 
At the meeting, Vietnam was chosen as presidency of STOM and Brunei as vice-presidency of STOM. 
 
The meeting reviewed the implementation of the ASEAN Charter and discussed the overall plan for the ASEAN Economic Community as well as finalized procedures for signing ASEAN transport agreements among regional nations.
 
Participants will also hear reports on the functioning of World Groups on Marine Transport, Air Transport, Land Transport and Transport Facilitation this year.
 
Additionally, they talked on ways to build the ASEAN Transport Strategy for 2011-2015 period and draft documents to be ratified at the 15th Transport Ministerial Meeting by late 2009 between ASEAN and such dialogue partners as China, Japan, the RoK, the European Union and India. (Local sources)
