Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung will pay an official visit to South Korea to attend 20th Asean-Republic of Korea dialogue partnership, at the invitation of President Lee Myung Bak, Vietnamese state media said, quoting Special Envoy, Lee Byung Suk, in Hanoi on May 12.

South Korea and Asean meet to discuss global issues such as climate change and the fight against crime and he looked forward to receiving Vietnam’s contributions to holding the meeting successfully, Lee said.

Lee said Vietnam has a good environment for investment and shares a lot of similarities with South Korea, so Korean businesses see Vietnam as a destination for effective and long-term investments.

Lee expects PM Dung’s upcoming visit will help bring bilateral relations to a new height.

Though South Korea is now a leading investor and one of Vietnam’s leading partners, the potential for more cooperation is still huge, Mr Dung noted.

Vietnam will boost its long-term comprehensive cooperation with South Korea, thus contributing to both countries’ development as well as to peace, stability and development in the region and the world, Mr Dung said.

South Korea has pledged to fund US$268 million for Vietnam this year, state media said.

In the first half last year, Vietnam became one of Korea's 10 largest export markets, Korea exported to Vietnam US$4.51 billion, up 77.7 per cent on year, so Vietnam beat India, Indonesia and Britain to become Korea's 10th export destination, according to KOICA.
