Vietnam PM to Visit Japan This Week
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung will pay a working visit to Japan from Thursday to Saturday, the government said in a statement on May 18.
Mr Dung’s visit is one month after Party Chief Nong Duc Manh’s four-day trip in April to the foreign country.
Mr Dung is scheduled to attend the 15th international conference “The Future of Asia,” in Tokyo, the government statement said.
The Vietnamese government leader will deliver a keynote speech at the conference and discuss measures with other government leaders on measures to head off the economic downturn.
Tokyo is one of the biggest ODA and FDI investors of Hanoi. Recently Tokyo resumed providing aids after it has seen improvements in corruption fights.
This year, Japan pledged 83 billion yen (837 million dollars) for Vietnam's infrastructure projects this year.
Tokyo is also one of biggest buyers of Vietnamese goods. Tokyo and Hanoi have recently signed the bilateral strategic partnership agreement to expand two-way trade, which hit US$15.5 billion last year.
By end-2008, Japan invested US$17 billion into 1,000 projects in Vietnam, ranking third among countries and territories. (chinhphu.vn, The People)
