Vietnam Jan-April Exports to U.S. Rise 3 per cent to US$3.74B

Vietnam reportedly raked in US$3.74 billion from exporting goods to the United States (U.S.) in the first four months of this year, an on-year rise of 3 per cent.
 
Among the county’s export staples, garments and textiles topped the list with US$1.6 billion, up 5 per cent on-year, followed by footwear with US$460 million, up 22.6 per cent.
 
Meanwhile, wood furniture exports decreased by 9 per cent and seafood went down 16.4 per cent on-year.
 
Vietnam-U.S. trade from Jan to Apr stood at US$4.5 billion, down 4 per cent on-year, of which, Vietnam’s imports from the U.S. valued at US$822.7 million were down 22 per cent on-year.
 
During the period, Vietnam reported a huge trade surplus with the U.S. of US$2.917 billion.
 
Vietnam’s total exports to the U.S. are forecast to reach US$13.2 billion in 2009, up 5 per cent on-year, including garments and textiles with US$5.53 billion, up 5 per cent, footwear with US$1.4 billion, up 16 per cent and industrial and handicraft industry products with US$2.73 billion, up 16.5 per cent, said Ngo Van Thoan, Vietnam trade counselor to the U.S. (VOV)
