Direct Container Link from Vietnam to U.S. East Coast Opens
Japan’s K-Line Shipping Company began the first direct container-shipping service from Vietnam to the U.S.’s east coast on August 19.
K-Line’s ship, Verrazano Bridge, will begin its route at the SP-PSA International Port in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau and continue to the east coast of North America.
The 54,591 DWT vessel has a capacity of 4,041 TEUs (20-foot unit).
On June 3, the SP-PSA port received the 4,250-TEU ship APL Denver run by Singapore-based global shipping leader APL, launching the first weekly direct container-shipping route between Vietnam and the west coast of North America.
The SP-PSA International Port is a joint venture between Saigon Port, the Vietnam Shipping Corporation (Vinalines) and PSA Vietnam Pte. Ltd. (Saigon Liberation, VNS)
