Demand for GPRS Services in Vietnam on the Rise
The domestic demand for GPRS services used for mobile phones in Vietnam is rapidly rising despite the economic downturn.
GPRS is preferred, industry insiders said, as it provides added value to mobile users, such as mobile internet, software and service downloads.
Mobile network operators said that GPRS services on mobile phones accounted for a significant portion of their total revenue, while earlier the revenue was generated mainly from call services.
A representative from MobiFone said that the number of GPRS service users in his network has doubled since 2008, reaching nearly three million subscribers. VinaPhone, meanwhile, has two million subscribers regularly using GPRS services.
Deputy Director Nguyen Viet Dung of Viettel Telecom forecast that the GPRS services would rise further after mobile phone networks provide 3G service next year. (Vietnamnet)
