Vietnam's Leading Coffee Exporters Set Up Club
Vietnam’s top coffee exporters have established a club to strengthen the competitiveness of local coffee beans via cooperation on identifying international trends, sharing crop data and establishing prices.
The club gathered 20 coffee businesses including, Vinacafe, Intimex and Simexco Daklak, which account for 80% of the country’s coffee export, the source said, citing an announcement by the Vietnam Coffee and Cocoa Association.
The association said the exporters would also shared experiences in processing to improving coffee quality for export.
Vietnam’s coffee yield would decline 15%-20% in 2009-2010 seasons as farmers had invested less in coffee due to the global economic recession, according to the association.
Vietnam is the world’s largest Robusta coffee exporter, earning US$1.26 billion from exporting 848,000 tons of coffee beans between January and August
Vietnam produced around 19 million bags of coffee in the 2008- 2009 crop year, or 15% of the world’s total output, according to the International Coffee Organization data. (VNA)
