Vietnam Earns US$107M from Tea Exports in Jan-Aug, up 11.7%
Vietnam is estimated to have exported 83,000 tons of tea valued at US$107 million between January and August, up 19.5% and 11.7%, respectively from a year earlier, the government’s General Statistic Office reported.
In August, local companies earned US$21 million from shipping 15,000 tons of tea abroad, decreasing by 4.5% in value and 6.3% in volume as compared to the previous month.
The country plans to export 117,000 tons in 2009 with a total turnover of nearly US$167 million.
Vietnamese tea products have appeared in 110 countries and territories worldwide.
This year, tea plantation area will reach more than 131,000 hectares in the country, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. (GSO August 2009)
