Vietnam Jan-Aug Retail Sales, Services up 18.4% at US$41.675B

Vietnam is estimated to have earned VND742.7 trillion (US$41.675 billion) from retail sales and services in the first eight months of this year, up 18.4% from a year ago, the government's General Statistics Office said on August 28.
 
Excluding price increase factors, Vietnam’s retail sales and services are thought to have grown 9.3% during the period.
 
The total retail sales and services of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City are estimated at VND265.7 trillion (US$14.9 billion), representing 35.8% of the country’s sum during the period, up 17.7% on-year.
 
Of that figure, VND95.3 trillion came from Hanoi, up 16.4% on-year, and VND170.4 trillion came from Ho Chi Minh City, up 18.5% on-year.
 
During the period, the trade sector, the largest retailer, is thought to have seen an increase in revenue of 18.7% to VND581.7 trillion, equivalent to 78.3% of the country's total retail sales and services revenue.
 
The hotel and restaurant sectors are estimated to have seen an on-year revenue increase of 16% to VND84.2 trillion with the service sector seeing an estimated on-year rise of 9.4% to VND69.4 trillion. (GSO Aug 2009)
