Vietnam Tuna Exports Fall 14.2% to US$89.4M in Jan-July
Vietnam earned US$89.4 million from exporting 26,830 tons of tuna from early this year to July 15, down 14.2% in value and 8.7% in volume against the same period last year, the General Department of Customs reported.
In the period, the U.S. was the largest importer of Vietnamese tuna with a total volume of 9,324 tons worth US$33 million, up 17.9% and 19.7% on-year, respectively, the department said.
Domestic companies also boosted their tuna shipments to Lebanon, which has not yet been listed among Vietnam’s biggest tuna importers, with an impressive on-year rise of 193.1% in volume and 179% in value during the time.
Vietnam’s tuna exports to Israel, Algeria, Canada, and Croatia, however, saw consecutive decreases of 17.7%, 23.5%, 26.1%, and 35.5% from a year earlier.
In 2008, Vietnam exported 52,818 tons of tuna worth US$188.6 million, up 25% in value and unchanged in volume. (Finance Ministry’s Market)
