Vietnam Seeks APEC Supports for SMEs Development
Vietnam needs more APEC supports for developing its small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) which account for up to 96% of the country’s total number of businesses, said ABAC Vietnam Chairman Hoang Van Dung.
Mr. Hoang Van Dung, who is Standing Vice President of Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) made the call at the closing meeting of the 3rd Asia-Pacific Economic Forum’s Business Advisory Council (ABAC) in the central city of Danang on August 27.
At the meeting, the ABAC called on all APEC economies’ efforts to prevent protectionism and implement the Declaration of LIMA on trade liberalization.
The 3rd ABAC meeting, which started in Danang on August 25-27, attracted officials, CEOs, researchers and policymakers from the 21 APEC member economies.
At the conference, the participation urged the APEC to set up a free trade area (FTA) in the region. They suggested that APEC leaders draw up a roadmap for regional FTA negotiations, slated to kick off in 2010.
Other matters of concern include food security, sustainable development, climate change and effects of population growth on the development of small- and medium-sized enterprises.
