Exporting Red-pulp Dragon Fruit to the US
The Centre for Post-import Vegetation Quarantine 2 under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said the Ho Chi Minh City-based Rong Do Dragon Fruit Company has exported the first container of red pulp dragon fruits to the US by air in addition to the white pulp shipments.
Vietnam exported nearly 30 tonnes of white pulp dragon fruits to the US market from May to July 2009. The success is beyond expectations.
US importers appreciate the quality of red pulp dragon fruits and will accept unlimited supply of this type of dragon fruits. Nonetheless, the area of red-pulp dragon fruits is small although the price is 5-10 times higher than the white pulp variety. Presently, Vietnamese farmers only grow red pulp dragon fruits on 30 hectares in Binh Thuan, Tien Giang, Long An and Tay Ninh provinces.
