General contractor Technip will hand over Dung Quat oil refinery, the first of its kind in the Southeast Asian country, to the state-owned Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam) in late December, according to General Director Phung Dinh Thuc.

Earlier, Technip planned to transfer the refinery to the investor this October, but it will delay the hand-over due to the recent valve breakdown at the plant’s residue fluid catalytic cracking (RFCC) workshop, said Mr. Thuc.

The refinery has supplied 372,000 tons of products and brought about revenue of VND4.2 trillion (US$235.32 million) since its first operation on Feb. 22, he noted.

PetroVietnam expects the US$3.054-billion plant will produce a total of 2.02 million tons of products by end-2009, which is lower than it earlier target of 2.6 million tons. (Vneconomy)
