The government of Vietnam should map out plans to build the second Nam Con Son gas pipeline in the near term, state media reported, citing General Director of the state-owned Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam).

Thuc made the proposal at a meeting hosted by the Ministry of Industry and Trade in Hanoi on October 4.

Also at the meeting, he suggested the government to make incentives for some power projects as well as speed up coal import projects and distribution of Dung Quat oil refinery’s products.

The US$1.3 billion Nam Con Son gas project off Vietnam's southern coast involves the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam), Britain's BP, India's Oil and Natural Gas and the US's ConocoPhillips. The pipeline, which has been operational since November 2002, is capable of transporting 18 million cubic meters of gas per day. (Urban & Economy)
