Vietnam Exports to U.S. Fall 5.8% to US$6.17M in Jan-July

Vietnam exported US$6.17 billion worth of goods to U.S. in the first seven months of 2009, down 5.82% from a year earlier, the Ministry of Industry and Trade said.
 
In July, the Southeast Asian country shipped US$1.02 million worth of goods to the U.S., said the ministry without giving comparative figures.
 
During the seven-month period, apparel was Vietnam’s biggest cash earner with US$2.77 billion, making up 44.92% of the country’s total export value.
 
It was followed by footwear with US$612.97 million, wood furniture with US$566.41 million, seafood with US$376 million, computers, electronics and spares with US$241.69 million and crude oil with US$232.63 million.
 
Vietnam is forecast to fetch between US$12.6 billion and US$13 billion from goods exports to the U.S. this year, up from US$12 billion last year. Of which, apparel export value will be US$5.5 billion and that of wood furniture and footwear at US$1.4 billion each. (vinanet)
