The Philippines’ government may cancel a plan to export 150,000 tons of corn to Vietnam late this year after recent floods and typhoons damaged its key corn growing areas.

The Philippine Agriculture Deputy Minister Bernie G. Fondevilla said the plan could be delayed until early 2010, despite high demand for yellow corn for animal feed processing.

The Philippines Agriculture Ministry Aug. said it will sell 150,000 tons of corn to Vietnam, out of total 600,000 tons of domestically grown. But two consecutive tropical storms, the Ketsana and Parma, have destroyed 18,651 ha of corn fields in Luzon. (Vietnam & World Economy)
