Imported Vegetables, Fruits Flooding Vietnam Market
Imported vegetables and fruits are flooding the domestic market with increasing volume while Vietnamese farmers are seeking ways to ship their fruits abroad.
Imported vegetables and fruits with most from China, which had been on sales at only supermarkets before, now are offered for sales in wholesale markets and by street vendors.
However, the Information Center for Agriculture and Rural Development said Vietnam’s import of fruits and vegetables from China dropped consecutively during the past four months to US$17.01 million in Aug from US$10 million in April.
Supermarkets in Vietnam are selling 15-20 kinds of imported fruits, including orange, grapes, mulberry and apple.
Meanwhile, Vietnamese farmers find hard to sell their farm produce to supermarkets. (Youth)
