Japanese technology firm Torishima and Vietnamese Lilama 18 JSC have signed an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract worth US$60 million to build the 1,200-MW Vung Ang 1 power plant in the central province of Ha Tinh.

Under the agreement, Torishima and Lilama 18 will design, supply and install a cooling system for the coal-fired power plant.

The plant, which will be built on a 213.65-hectare area in Ky Loi commune of Ky Anh district, will have a total investment of US$1.58 billion with Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam) contributing 30% of the investment and banks loaning the remaining.

PetroVietnam will use 2.9 million tons of coal dust annually sourced from the northern province of Quang Ninh to feed the plant.

Once fully operational in 2013, the two-turbine plant is expected to generate 7.2 billion kWh of electricity per annum. (www.lilama18.com.vn Dec 24) Dec 24)
