The Directorate for Standards, Metrology and Quality of the Ministry of Science and Technology on January 17 presented the National Quality Award 2009 to 108 enterprises, including 11 Gold awards and 97 Silver awards, and the International Asia-Pacific Quality Award 2009 (IAPQA) to two enterprises.
Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan, Minister of Science and Technology Hoang Van Phong, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Quan, leaders of other ministries and State agencies, and representatives of awarded enterprises attended the Awarding Ceremony.
To create a fair playground, honor and encourage enterprises of all economic sectors in Vietnam, the Organizing Board grouped the participating enterprises in the four categories of large-scale production enterprises, small and medium-sized enterprises, large and small-scale enterprises of the services sector.
The two winners of IAPQA this year are Vietnam Electric Cable Corporation (CADIVI) and Petroleum Material Joint-stock Company (COMECO).
According to Dr. Ngo Quy Viet, Director General of the Directorate for Standards, Metrology and Quality, apart from honoring enterprises with excellent achievements in improving the quality of products and services, the National Quality Award’s assessing criteria is useful tool for enterprises to apply in the quality control process and enterprises’ performance.
Mr. Nguyen Ba Tung, Deputy General Director of Long Hau Joint-stock Co., an industrial park developer, said: “Long Hau Co. is an infant enterprise, set up in 2006, but has strictly applied the assessing criteria and the quality control process of the Award since the beginning of its operation and gained initial successes. In order to have objective assessments on the company’s operation, Long Ha decided to apply for the Award and has obtained the Gold Award. This is a great momentum for all leaders and staff of the company to try more efforts to gain future successes.
According to Mr. Nguyen Van Phan, Deputy General Director of Phu Nhuan PNJ, with the targets of high productivity, effective operation and sustainable development, PNJ was the first enterprise in the field of gemstone and jewelry industry which applied the ISO quality control. After four years of following up and applying seven criteria of the Quality Award, the company’s production and business performance have gained good results. Although PNJ won the National Quality Gold Award in 2009, its still has to strictly apply all the award’s criteria in all aspects of the company’s operation.
This is the first year the Ministry of Science and Technology presenting the National Quality Award based on the foundation of the Vietnam Quality Award which was set up since 1995 and belonged to the IAPQA. More than 1,200 enterprises have been awarded so far, of which 51 enterprises received the Certificate of Merit from the Prime Minister.
