The state-owned Electricity of Vietnam Group (EVN) is estimated to earn an additional VND5.8 trillion (US$303.664 million) from the power price increase of 6.8% applied from Mar. 1, Tien phong newspaper reported Thursday.

The additional income is forecast to account for 0.3% of the country’s estimated GDP this year.

The power price increase is estimated to lower the country’s GDP growth rate by 0.34% and increase CPI by between 0.2% and 0.27% in 2010, experts said.

Currently, the country’s average power price will be hiked to VND1,058/kWh from a year earlier, including valued added tax (VAT).

The state-owned Vietnam National Coal-Mineral Industries Group (Vinacomin) raised coal prices for the power industry by between 28.23% and 46.6% from March 1. It is expected to earn an additional VND1.2 trillion from the price rise. (Pioneer)
