Japan’s Itochu Group has proposed the partnership with Vietnam National Shipping Lines (Vinalines) to build Lach Huyen International Gateway Seaport in the northern city of Haiphong under the public-private partnership (PPP) form.

Itochu and Vinalines will pour $165 million into Part B of the port to build two container cargo wharves and they plan to start the project this quarter.

As planned, the seaport will be the biggest transshipment seaport in northern Vietnam, including four container cargo wharves and two bulk cargo wharves. It is expected to handle 35 million tons of cargo annually.

Lach Huyen seaport is among Vietnam’s key infrastructure projects which will get Japanese ODA, besides Noi Bai International Airport and Noi Bai-Nhat Tan Highway.

Vietnam has more than 100 ports, including 39 seaports now. (Investment)
