Saigon Newport Corporation will operate 2nd phase worth $196 million of Tan Cang-Cai Mep container seaport, the biggest of its kind in Vietnam, in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau late this year.

The firm started construction of the second phase, which includes two wharfs with a combined length of 600 meters and one container warehouse, in 2008.

Covering on a site of 40 hectares, Tan Cang-Cai Mep’s 2nd phase is expected to receive ships with a loading capacity of 110,000 tons each.

Tan Cang-Cai Mep port handled 270,000 TEUs or 2 million tons of cargoes within the past year, including 1.2 million tons in the first six months of this year.

Early this year, the first container ship of the Grand Alliance docked at Tan Cang-Cai Mep deepwater seaport, opening a direct service between Vietnam and the U.S. east coast. (Investment)
