Korea Doosan Wins $3B Contract to Build 2 Coal-fired Power Plants in Vietnam
Doosan Heavy Industries and Construction of South Korea has acquired a contract worth $3 billion to build two coal-fired power plants with a combined capacity of 2,400 MW in Vietnam.
The final agreement on the plants will be signed in the second half of next year between Doosan and the state-run Vietnam National Coal-Mineral Industries Group (Vinacomin).
The Korean firm will build a 1,200-MW plant in Quynh Lap district of the central province of Nghe An and another one in Long Phu district of the Mekong Delta province of Soc Trang.
Earlier, Doosan signed a $1.2-billion contract to build the 1,200-MW Mong Duong 2 coal-fired power plant in the northern coal hub province of Quang Ninh.
Vietnam estimates it needs $120 billion to build power plants in the next ten years.
The country is forecast to face a power shortage of between 400 million kWh and 1.4 billion kWh in the first half of next year. (VnEconomy.vn)
