HCM City CPI Up 9.58% in 2010: Report

Ho Chi Minh City’s consumer price index in December is estimated to have increased 1.61% from November, supported by higher prices of garments, footwear, and headwear, the municipal Statistics Office said. The index rose 9.58% this year.
 
Ten out of 11 commodities witnessed price increases in December, in which garments, hats and shoes posted the highest on-month hike of 3.17% as demand for decorates and make-ups often rise ahead of the Lunar New Year festival.
 
Food and foodstuff services followed with an on-month rise of 2.37%, in which foods prices surged 4.56% and restaurant services up 1.57%.
 
Prices of housing, electricity, fuel and construction materials were up above 2% while post and telecommunication services registered the lowest increase of 0.03%. Educational products, however, stayed almost unchanged. 
 
In December, gold and U.S. dollar soared 5% and 3.47% on-month, respectively. (VnExpress)
