Vietnam to Export 6M Tons of Rice in 2011: Food Association
Vietnam, the world’s second largest rice exporter, is expected to export six million tons of rice this year, down from 6.754 million tons last year, the Vietnam Food Association (VFA) said.
Nearly 1.3 million tons of the volume will be delivered in the first quarter, two million tons in Q2, 1.5 million tons in Q3 and 1.2 million tons in Q4, according to the VFA Chairman Truong Thanh Phong.
The export revenues for 2011 will be kept unchanged from last year’s figure because export prices of Vietnamese rice are predicted to stay high this year, Phong said, attributing lower export volume to thin supply at local market.
Vietnamese companies earned around $3 billion from rice exports last year, with prices averaged at $431 per ton.
In 2010, Asia remained the largest importer of Vietnamese rice, buying up to 59.4% of the total volume, followed by the African market with 23.55%. (Trade & Industry, Youth)
