According to the report from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, total export turnover of agricultural – forestry – aquatic products in March continues to rise, reaching roughly US$1.8 billion. Among those, key agricultural products earned US$1.1 billion; key forestry products US$280 million and fisheries US$400 million.
In the first quarter, most products had on year quantity and value increases. Total industry export turnover in first quarter was US$5.4 billion, an increase of 33.3 percent on year.
In March, Vietnam earned US$300 million from about 600,000 tonnes of rice export, raising the total amount of rice exported in the first three months to 1.6 million tonnes with turnover of US$823 million, up 13.3 percent in quantity but only 3.9 percent in value. Main export markets are Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore, in which Indonesia remains its largest importer, accounting for 39.2 percent of export value.
Rubber export was estimated 56,000 tonnes with turnover of U$S250 million, raising total rubber export in first three months to 179,000 tonnes with revenue of US$798 million, up 44.9 percent year on year. Export rubber price is about US$4,466 per tonne, up 76.9 percent. This strong increase takes place across most leading markets such as China, Malaysia, Korea and Germany. Among those, China is the biggest market with 62.3 percent of market share.
Aquatic product exports increased rather strongly with US$400 million, pushing total export revenue in first three months to US$1.1 billion, up 22 percent year on year. Aquatic exports grew in most markets, such as the US with 39.3 percent; Germany, 32.5 percent; and Canada, 100 percent. Shrimp export strongly increased in potential markets such as the US and the EU.
Other export products are tea, cashew nut and pepper. Tea export is not as eventful as last year; however, it follows the price increase trend of agricultural products, exported tea’s price is about US$1,437 per tonne, increasing by 3.7 percent on year. Pepper export is estimated at about eight thousand tonnes with turnover of US$38 million, which pushes export in the first three months to 18,000 tonnes with turnover of US$85 million. Pepper price also strongly goes up; average export price in first two months was about US$4,785 per tonne, up 53.8 percent (equal to US$1.673 per tonne).
To foster export of agricultural, forestry and aquatic products, the strengths of Vietnam, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development plans to focus on primary construction capital. Among those, priority is put on some key projects such as the Rural Complex on the Central Coast (borrowed capital from World Bank), projects for agricultural competitive development, and ODA projects, to help citizens intensify production, growing and exploitation of agricultural, forestry and aquatic products, continuously increasing product turnover and reaching all the set goals.
