Chevron, MOECO, PTTEP, NFVC Join Hands to Boost Education Opportunities
Recently,Chevron Vietnam Ltd. (US), Mitsui Oil Exploration Company Ltd. (MOECO) (Japan), and PTT Exploration and Production Public Company Limited (PTTEP) (Thailand), announced that they would collaborate with the National Fund for Vietnamese Children (NFVC) to upgrade school facilities and provide scholarships to underprivileged children in the Mekong Delta in 2011.
The partnership was confirmed at a special signing ceremony witnessed by Madame Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, Minister of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs (MOLISA). The event was also attended by Madame Vu Anh Dao, Director of NFVC; Mr. Hank Tomlinson, President of Chevron Vietnam Ltd.; and Mr. Norihiro Uetake, Chief Representative of MOECO in Hanoi.
The three energy companies will support the NFVC’s education program by upgrading five schools, including classrooms, fencing and schoolyards, and providing 825 scholarships to children in Ca Mau, Bac Lieu, Kien Giang, and Hau Giang Provinces, and in Can Tho City. The total value of the program is VND3 billion (~US$150,000).
During the ceremony, Minister Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan recognized President Hank Tomlinson for the contributions to the communities in Vietnam made by Chevron Vietnam Ltd. with an award from MOLISA. This was the third consecutive year that the Block B Gas Project partners have supported the National Fund for Vietnamese Children. By the end of this year, the project will have awarded more than two thousand scholarships.
Chevron Vietnam, MOECO and PTTEP are working with the Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (Petrovietnam), Vietnam Electricity (EVN), the Government of Vietnam and other stakeholders on the development of an offshore gas project and transportation pipeline, known as the Block B Gas Project. The companies are also working together to enable the development of new gas-fired power plants that will generate electricity for industries, commercial enterprises and homes in southwest Vietnam.
