Incepted in 1989, the military-run Saigon New Port has been voted the National Value by the National Brand Council.
The corporation is now providing a wide range of seaport operation services like cargo handling, logistics, maritime services, salvage, pilot, real estate, multi-modal transportation services, and others. Port operation and logistics are the two core businesses of Saigon Newport. With annual cargo throughput reaches 2.25 million tonnes, Tan Cang - Cat Lai Terminal, located in Ho Chi Minh City, is now the biggest international container terminal in Vietnam. Specially, Tan Cang - Cai Mep container terminal - the Vietnamese first deep sea terminal - is capable of accommodating vessels of 110,000 DWT ( 9,000 TEUs). With Vietnam’s first direct service route to the United States, the Cai Mep terminal is opening up many opportunities for Vietnamese exporters.
As a military unit, the corporation’s personnel is built on military disciplines. All staff is very professional, responsible, well- disciplined, dynamic and creative. During its development, in addition to promoting the traditional beauty of Vietnamese soldiers, Saigon Newport always pays high attention to opening many training courses. It has recently sent a delegation to the Netherlands to learn about port management and logistics.
On the other hand, the corporation also focuses on building localised customer support and care centres to support customers around the clock. Hence, all clients feel like at home ports when they come to Saigon Newport.
At present, Saigon Newport holds the leading market share among the terminal operators in Vietnam. Its import - export container throughput accounts for more than 80 percent of the market share in Ho Chi Minh City and nearly 50 percent in the country. The corporation’s logistics services rose 30 percent in 2010 and were expected to expand 40 percent in 2011-2012. In the coming time, as regards domestic market, Saigon Newport will promote operations of Quy Nhon - Mien Trung, Hai Phong - Mien Trung and Cai Mep - Mien Nam ports. As regards foreign markets, the corporation will primarily focus in Cambodia, Laos and Thailand.
With its excellent business achievements, Saigon Newport was awarded the title “Labour Hero of the Renovation Period” in 2004, First-, Second- and Third-Class Labour Orders, Third-Grade Victory Order, Trademark and Brand Name Gold Cup in 2007, National Value in 2010.
