Tapping the advantages of a traditional handicraft village in Tay An commune of Tien Hai district, Phuong Anh Private Enterprise has created thousands of jobs, contributing significantly to local social and economic development.
In recent years, the situation of Tay An commune has been significantly improved. With new handicraft production factories, local people have extra jobs to increase their incomes. At present, trunk roads in Tay An commune have been paved with concrete; high-rise buildings have been put up, and roads are full of motorised vehicles. Most villagers in Tay An have extra jobs to increase their incomes. The facelift of Tay An is built on the handicraft enterprises in the commune.

To witness the development of handiwork enterprises in Tay An, we decided to drop in on Phuong Anh Private Enterprise, a leading business in the commune. Ha Trung Hung, Director of Phuong Anh Private Enterprise, told us about the road he had gone. Director Hung, an American war veteran, decided to restore bamboo and rattan handicraft production in his hometown. He went to a many places to find material sources and output markets before starting up his business in 2000. By 2004, when his business picked up the pace, he registered with authorities to set up Phuong Anh Private Enterprise. Since then, his company has provided jobs for thousands of local workers and paid billions of Vietnamese dong in taxes to the local State Budget each year. Director Hung proudly said, “When I started up a business, I not only raised my own income, but also provided opportunities for thousands of people to increase their incomes, and especially promoted cottage industries.”

The company’s products are popular items like baskets, hats and bags crocheted by skilled artisans with PP fibres. These environment-friendly products are preferred by consumers. At present, the enterprise is selling them in the domestic market and is seeking to export to other countries. At present, it is finalising its factory expansion and providing skills for new recruits.

However, Phuong Anh Private Enterprise is encountering difficulties in accessing loans for expanding its workforce. If this problem is solved, it will be able to bring its strength into full play to create more jobs for farmers and bring more wealth for society.
