Int’l Visitors to Vietnam Rise 17.3 Pct in Jan-Jul

The Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) said the number of international visitor arrivals to Vietnam reached 460,000 in July, up 12.2 percent year on year. The Southeast Asian nation welcomed 3,425,820 foreign tourists in the first seven months of 2011, up 17.3 percent year on year.
 
Airways carried up to 84 percent, or 2.9 million visitors, to Vietnam in the January - July period, up 22.6 percent from the same period of 2010. However, seaway arrivals fell 21.4 percent on year to only 22,000.
 
Vietnam saw strong growths of visitors from target markets. China took the lead with nearly 786,000 visitors (up 53.5 percent year on year), South Korea with over 300,000 visitors (up 4 percent), the United States with over 273,000 visitors (up 2.5 percent), Japan with nearly 269,000 visitors (up 11.7 percent), Australia with 171,000 visitors (up 2.3 percent), and France with 123,000 visitors (up 4.5 percent).
 
Southeast Asian countries are potential markets for Vietnamese tourism. Arrivals from Cambodia climbed 74.2 percent, Malaysia (18.7 percent) and Singapore (10.6 percent).
