MoT Ratifies Seaport Scheme
The Ministry of Transport (MoT) has recently ratified a specific seaport scheme for the four regions by 2020 with a vision towards 2030.
The scheme covers seaports in the North, North Central Region, South Central Region and South East Region.
Under the scheme, Hai Phong international seaport in the North will receive more investment to upgrade infrastructure to be able to handle ships with a loading capacity of 100,000 DWT or over.
The groups of seaports in the North will receive 146-176 million tons of goods by 2020.
According to the scheme, the seaports in the North Central Region will handle 129-186 million tons of goods by 2020.
The scheme sets a target for seaports in the South Central Region to handle 144-198 million tons of goods by 2020. Particularly, Van Phong seaport will be come an international port.
The scheme also paves the way for the removal of the seaport system in the Sai Gon River and the Ba Son shipbuilder to ease traffic pressure and congestion in Ho Chi Minh City.
The seaport system in the South East Region is expected to handle 235-317 million tons of goods by 2020 and receive 418.2 – 539.4 millions of passengers per year.
General seaport in the region will be located in Vung Tau province.
