More than VND 102 billion will be spent on a programme to encourage agricultural expansion in the 2011-2015 period, reported the National Centre for Encouraging Agricultural Expansion.

The programme aims to raise knowledge and skills on aquaculture management and technology for farmers, with the target of moving toward sustainable efficiency and better food hygiene.

The programme will prioritise projects with modern production techniques and high standards of quality and productivity, ensuring the improvement of Vietnamese seafood brands; such as projects developing sugpo prawn and tra and basa fish under the GAP (Good Agricultural Practice) process.

In the previous period - aiming to improve aquaculture on ecologically economic zones - the agricultural expansion encouragement programme invested in 18 technologies to enhance the production of eight types of sea fish, salt-water fish and brackish-water fish, seven types of fresh-water fish and sugpo prawn.
