Vietnam, India Hold Strategic Defence Dialogue
The Sixth Vietnamese-Indian Strategic Defence Dialogue at deputy ministerial level was held in Hanoi on September 14.
Vietnamese Deputy Defense Minister Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh and Indian Defense Secretary Shashi Kant Sharma co-chaired the event.
Both sides agreed that relations between Vietnam and India are entering a new stage of development.
Defense cooperation continues to develop actively and effectively in line with the strategic partnership agreed by leaders of the two countries.
Especially, through the exchange of delegations at all levels and strategic defense dialogue, the armies of the two countries have built mutual trust and understanding, creating momentum for closer cooperation in training staff for the naval, air defence and air force and defense industry.
Both sides agreed on many measures to boost defence cooperation through the exchange of delegations and the use of information, training and information technology.
They agreed on building a roadmap, a mechanism and measures to cooperate in the naval, air force, infantry and defence industry.
They also compared notes on their participation in the UN peacekeeping force and implementation of commitments at the first ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting Plus (ADMM+) in Hanoi in 2010.
At the end of the event, Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh and Shashi Kant Sharma signed the minutes of the Sixth Vietnamese-Indian Strategic Defence Dialogue.
The same day, Shashi Kant Sharma paid a courtesy visit to Vietnamese Defence Minister General Phung Quang Thanh.
