The Embassy of Canada welcomes the announcement of the Government of Vietnam to open access to Canadian live breeding cattle, sheep and goats to the Vietnamese market starting from August 1st, 2011. With this opening, Vietnamese clients will be able to procure high quality live animals from Canada for breeding purposes.  These animals are produced with the Canadian livestock population’s traceability, transparent verification systems of genetic ability, and high health standards.

“The opening of the Vietnamese market to Canadian live cattle, goat and sheep is a milestone in Canada – Vietnam relations,” said Ambassador of Canada to Vietnam Deborah Chatsis. “We believe that this access will benefit Vietnamese clients and Canadian ranchers as well as, ultimately, Vietnamese consumers.”

In August, 2011, a Vietnamese delegation including officials from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and representatives from the private sector participated in an exploratory visit to a number of farms in Canada. The Vietnamese delegates were introduced to Canada’s most current technology as well as genetics and herd health management programs. This visit highlighted areas where Vietnam and Canada can work together in order to improve Vietnamese genetics technologies and their performance ability.
