Saigon Export Foodstuffs and Agricultural Products Joint Stock Company (AGREX SAIGON) was established in 1976 and started to equitize in 2006. Since the milestone, AGREX SAIGON has been constantly growing and become one of the leading enterprises in processing aquatic products in Vietnam. Besides wide domestic delivery for most major supermarkets whole country, AGREX SAIGON products are also exported to many countries on over the world and recognized by customers.
Before equitisation in 2006, AGREX SAIGON specialized in processing and exporting agricultural products and foodstuffs. However, after 2006, the company focused on processing and exporting foodstuffs. Among the company’s export markets, Japan accounts 60 percent of export turnover, EU make up 20 percent, and the rest is Hong Kong, Singapore and United States. Annual turnover is gained about US$20 – 30 million.
The company’s factory is inherited from a Japanese company’s modern technology. This company’s engineers transferred the food processing technology to AGREX SAIGON 15 years ago, which marked long-term and sustainable bilateral partnership. Recently, AGEX SAIGON is actively promoting collaboration with Misute – a Japan general trading company, which is the bridge for AGREX SAIGON to access to “Japanese giants” like Japan Tobaco… Considering on Japanese partners, Mr Ngo Binh Long, Deputy Director of AGREX SAIGON said that Japanese are very strict in food hygiene, quality, packaging, and so on. Therefore, the company’s Japanese partners every year come to AGREX SAIGON’s factory to check the quality. Especially, during receiving processing order form, Japanese partners do not hesitate to share and advice on management experience, the solution to improve quality management, and food safety; which brings AGREX SAIGON precious experiences to grow stronger and more sustainable.
Mr Ngo Binh Long said that Japan is the potential import market. In spite of severe and strict market, it is undeniable that the demand of food here is very huge. The products of AGREX SAIGON have only met a small portion of the consumption in Japan. Hence, the company is actively setting up a sustainable and closely relationship with Japanese customers, as well as strengthening to distribute to the company’s traditional market in parallel with efforts to diversify products, enhancing competitive ability and expand market.
With the slogan “Food for modern life”, the company committed to providing customers available, delicious, nutritious, and qualitative products. Thus, besides modern and huge factories, AGREX SAIGON also maintains strict control of food hygiene according to ISO 9001:2000 and quality management system HACCP. Recently, despite facing many challenges from increasing wages, raw material price, material shortage, and fierce competition among peers. However, with determination and strive of the leadership and the staff, AGREX SAIGON confidently overcomes obstacles, enhancing production capacity, and meeting effectively customers’ demands. In 2010, the company’s profit reached nearly 30 billion dong, exceeding the target. In early 6 months of 2011, although economic fluctuations impacted on global economy and caused difficulties for enterprises, the returns still gained approximately 12 billion dong.
