EVN Starts Construction of US$1.7 Bln Power Plant
The construction of US$1.7 billion Mong Duong 1 Thermal Power Plant Project was kicked off in the northern province of Quang Ninh on October 22.
Covering an area of 55 hectares, the power plant has two turbines with total designed capacity of 1080 MW. The first turbine is expected to come into operation by Q1/2015, and the second one by Q3/2015.
The coal-fired plant is part of the national electricity development plan for the 2006-2015 period.
Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy PM Hoang Trung Hai urged the investor and contractors to ensure the progress of the projects. He also asked local authorities to assist families that have to relocate and resettle into new residential areas.
The thermal power plant is invested by the Electricity of Vietnam and its contractor is the Hyundai Engineering and Construction Co. Ltd, a leading construction company from the Republic of Korea.
The plant will utilize state-of-the-art technologies that comply with Vietnamese and international requirements for environment protection.
