Southern Province to Host First Forest Festival

The southern province of Dong Nai is preparing for the hosting of a forest festival in 2013 in the Dong Nai World Biosphere Reserve.
 
 Director of the Dong Nai Tourism Promotion Centre Vo Thi Thu Trang said the organization plan for the festival had been approved by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
 
As scheduled, the festival will last for 3-4 days, focusing on how to protect forests and preserve forest resources efficiently. The event will include mountain climbing, camping and sports competitions.
 
In addition, the festival will represent daily life and activities of ethnic minorities groups residing in the biosphere reserve.
 
The biosphere reserve is home to 1,700 rare creatures and over 700 species of animals, of which 40 species have been listed in the IUCN Red List of endangered animals like the one-horned rhino and pheasant.
 
As the homeland of 11 ethnic minorities, the reserve provides a multipurpose preservation model in which the sustainable development of both people and the environment is harmoniouly maintained based on biological and cultural diversity.
