Phu Rieng Rubber: Improving Labour Productivity

After 32 years of development, Phu Rieng Rubber Company is listed among the 500 biggest enterprises in Vietnam. The company has now 18,500 hectares of rubber, 19,000 hectares of forest in 3 districts of Binh Phuoc province, including Bu Gia Map, Bu Dang and Dong Phu. In Tuy Duc District, Dak Nong province, Phu Rieng Rubber Company has 12 rubber farms, 2 agriculture and forestry plantations, 2 processing factories, 1 health care centre and 1 cultural centre, creating about 6,500 stable jobs. In addition, Phu Rieng Rubber Company has 3 subsidiaries, associating with 10 other companies to expand production and trade activities. Phu Rieng Rubber Company’s party committee includes more than 1000 party members, all recognized for many years strong service, and party development exceeds its target by 10 percent yearly. The Phu Rieng Rubber Company harvested 27,500 tonnes of rubber in 2009 with average productivity of 2.08 tonnes/hectare and sold 28,238 tonnes of assorted rubber, including 11,688 tonnes for export and 18,448 tonnes for domestic consumption. In 2009, the company earned revenue of VND976 billion, including profit of VND268 billion, and contributed VND 97.3 billion to the state budget. The company has also replanted 793 hectares of rubber. Moreover, Phu Rieng Rubber also insures production and trading targets, and helps improve the living standard of labourers. The company consistently provides good salary and bonus policy, healthcare insurance and periodic health check-ups. In 2009, average income for company workers reached VND 87 million a year.

While achieving the above targets, Phu Rieng Rubber has enhanced its production line, improved technical standards and labour productivity, stabilized product quality, cut expenses and reduced product cost. In addition, the company also launches many emulation programs such as productivity and quality improvement; promotion of technical innovation; and cutting processing costs. All these help reduce product price, improving marketing effectiveness and access to local and international markets, insuring stability in production and consumption.

 

At the same time, Phu Rieng Rubber has set a new target of holding the title of excellent unit in the rubber sector, building and reinforcing the “pure and strong criterion” in the company’s party committee. Phu Rieng Rubber strives to reach 26,000 tonnes of rubber latex, and take good care of its rubber plantation and new areas in the next 5 years.
