Conference on Capacity Building for Water Environment Protection Policies

The Vietnam Environment Administration (VEA) in collaboration with the JICA Project Management Board organised a first-ever workshop on policy reviews and “Capacity Building for Water Environment Protection Policies” project funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

 

Currently, environmental management in general and water environment management in particular are still inadequate. Dr Nguyen The Dong, VEA Deputy General Director, said to manage the water environment, Vietnam needs consistent, clear, detailed, effective policies, solutions and supervisory systems when policies are brought into force.

 

Policy enforcement requires resources like personnel, technology, finance, awareness, and methodology. Dr Nguyen The Dong proposed that project stakeholders identify priority issues to focus on. This will serve as an important reference for the review and amendment of the Environmental Protection Law 2005.
