The Asian Development Bank (ADB) through Japan’s poverty reduction fund has decided to provide Vietnam with a non-refundable aid worth US$1.5 million to improve traffic safety on National Highway No.1.

An agreement on the aid package was signed on December 20th in Hanoi by the State Bank of Vietnam, ADB and the Ministry of Transport.

The sum will be used to pilot projects on traffic safety and natural disaster resilience in the south-central provinces of Ninh Thuan and Binh Thuan, where National Highway No1 runs through.

The projects will help upgrade roads to minimize risks of accidents and provide technical solutions to natural disaster resistance on roads. In addition, awareness-raising campaigns will be held to mitigate negative effects of traffic and climate change on the community.
