In 20 years of development, Dong Hai Company has continued the tradition of Ho Chi Minh’s army in its tasks of national defence and social welfare contributing to the national development and integration process. Vietnam Business Forum interviewed Colonel Nguyen Tien Cong, Director General of Dong Hai Company on its business activities. Nguyet Tham reports.
It is generally believed that army companies have great advantage in massive manpower, what do you think, Colonel?
It is not true. Army companies and Dong Hai in particular rely on the efficiency of their workforce. As a company, Dong Hai has to comply with all State policy and law on labour, sharing the same rights and obligations. In addition, it must keep military discipline and contribute to national security and defence. Consequently, its areas of activities are dual-purposed, serving the national defence and social welfare. Therefore, the notion of advantage in large manpower is tantamount to negate our efforts and achievements gained with our sweat and even blood.
Then, how is your business strategy and solutions?
In the past years, Dong Hai Company has been fully committed to the dual-task of national construction and defence. In the current process of international economic integration, as “businessmen in uniform”, we develop the ethics and culture of Ho Chi Minh’s soldiers, with heart and mind, in business activities, and are fully aware that market place is a battlefield. Dong Hai company in the 7th Military Zone is entrusted with the tasks of production and national defence in the East Sea. In the battlefield without firing a gun, we have tried our utmost to overcome all difficulties to gain victory.
Surmounting difficulties and challenges, Dong Hai Company has established its brand with several successes honoured by the Party, State and Army as well as by businesses associations and customers. The success story is due to the leadership of the 7th Military Zone High command and the Ministry of National Defence, as well as the support of other units inside and outside the army. With the unity, dynamism and creativeness of the collective leadership, and especially the sense of duty of the whole company in overcoming difficulties and challenges, Dong Hai could ensure the quality and reputation of its products and brand.
As the slogans for the battlefields are “aiming directly at the enemy” and “determined to fight and determined to win”, how can you apply them and make breakthroughs in business activities?
As a company, Dong Hai applies the slogan “Productivity – Quality – Efficiency”. At the same time, with the policy and guidance of the military command, its business activities must be in compliance with the law and orientation to protect the sovereignty, financial safety, efficiency and close cooperation between economic and national defence interests. In the coming years, Dong Hai Company will implement the strategy of sustainable development (medium and long-term investments to 2020). In addition to modern equipment and technology, the company will focus on human resources development to successfully achieve its main political tasks: national defence and security and efficient business activities.
Could you share some business experiences with your colleagues?
To develop an army company under the conditions of international economic integration, it is necessary to develop the tradition of “Unity – Dynamism – Creativeness”, daring to think and to act with full responsibility. Those are true values of soldiers. There must be also confidence in officers, especially young officers with knowledge experienced in military service. Grass-roots democracy must be applied with the guidelines “People know, discuss, act and control”. The company must take good care of the living conditions of the workers; implement social responsibility in local areas and for the families of the soldiers.
