“To earn loyalty from customers, despite having to suffer loss, the company ought to remain operation without interruption. Once contracts are signed, whatever happens, our vehicles will still be driven” – Mr Hoang Van Trung, Director General of Son Duc Vehicle Transport Joint Venture Company said about his enterprise’s operation motto.
Facing loss risk without reservation
Viet Duc Group is one of the biggest transport enterprises in China with 36 stations, over 3000 vehicles of varied types and nearly 8000 staff. Desiring to promote trade between China and Vietnam through road transport, in September 2005, Viet Duc made investment into Lang Son under operation of its subsidiary enterprise named Son Duc Vehicle Transport Joint Venture Company. By the end of 2005, Son Duc’s activities were not smooth due to lack of understanding about Vietnamese market, which resulted in losses. However, as estimated by Director General Trung, it was foreseen by the company’s management board initially, there was not much importance engaged to this issue. Besides, recognizing the potential investment destination, the whole company’s staff tried to remain and operate transportation with 8 vehicles.
Given the right motto, Son Duc Vehicle has gradually affirmed its position in Lang Son. It is proved by business growth in following years. For example, the company’s turnover was VND 9 billion in 2007 and VND 15 billion in 2008. It was the award for Son Duc for always appreciating and building loyalty with customers and partners. “To earn loyalty from customers, despite having to suffer loss, the company ought to remain operation without interruption. Once contracts are signed, whatever happens, our vehicles will still be driven”- Director General Trung said about his enterprise’s operation motto. For instance, at time of fluctuations in oil price in Vietnam, the company still kept the contracts previously signed with the partners and accepted to gain less profit from them.
So far, with 42 vehicles, Son Duc mainly providing car rent service for tourists. To increase its competitiveness, the company has opened new routes to Cambodia, Laos, receiving high appreciation from car renters in these two countries.
Preserving valuable assets
The majority of personnel in Son Duc Vehicle Transport Joint Venture are Vietnamese. Being a Chinese leader, Mr Trung estimated that: “I realize that Vietnamese staffs are industrious, cooperative with their supervisors. For example, during holidays, they still work hard to serve customers without complaint”. Their enthusiasm and passion for work partially origin from the company’s leaders’ attention and concern about employees’ life. Especially concerning the drivers, the leaders also study each one’s life to timely support at hard time. In cold season, they are provided cotton coat to ensure their health during their work. The company’s management also comes to visit the staff to encourage them during peak time.
Aware of drivers’ hard work, Son Duc has issued a regulation that every 300 kilometers there has to be a station for drivers to take a rest in 10-20 minutes. To ensure the drivers’ health as well as passengers’ safety, there are 2-3 ones driving in turns at safe speed.
